This was my collection for The Fashion Production Association’s 2025 fashion show at OSU. The theme of this show was stories. I chose to create a collection taking inspiration from one of my favorite children’s books, The Velveteen Rabbit.

 The Velveteen Rabbit reminds us that what truly matters isn’t something’s newness, but how much it is loved. When you love and care for a garment, it gains meaning. With this show, I was interested in telling a story with the signs of wear on the garments. Using a handful of different mending techniques, I emphasized the areas that would see more action due to wear over time.

Part of my idea for this collection was to tell the story of the Velveteen rabbit through my designs. I believe my design philosophies and characteristics reflect how Margery Williams approaches love and her descriptions of ____.

I think the graphic represents the issue with over consumerism and fast fashion today. It’s a harmful cycle where companies create low quality garments out of bad materials and consumers buy clothes . People should care more about the longevity of their clothes. Environmental sustainability is treated like a burden to the fashion industry/consumers.

Large companies also participate in the cycle of fast fashion. The system thrives off of consumers buying new clothes

The snake is in a constant cycle of biting it's tail. The constant buying/selling of fast fashion is self sabotage to not only the Earth but the identity of fashion itself.
